It was a great success - 108 people attended! It was so nice to see my Mom and Dad enjoying their friends and family. Quite a few people came in from out of town and we visited with cousins we don't get to see very often. All of my siblings were here - the pictures came out great!! We are already planning Daddy's 90th party in two years - but we may have to rent a place for the next one.

Last night we attended a 50th birthday party for Teresa. John and Joanna have such a great house for parties. Between the Theriot's and the Fisse's it was crazy. We spent the night at Britt and Jimmy's house. Saturday morning Gee headed to his hunting lease somewhere in Mississippi and I headed home.

Life is a little crazy with our living arrangements right now, but here's the good part - when we are together we are genuinely excited to see each other and have so much to talk about. We also love having another "home" and area to explore. Gee has lost weight and looks great - and we both enjoy the beauty of the area.

Life is good.

My baby is married!

Brittany and Jimmy's wedding was this past weekend and we had such a good time. We arrived in New Orleans on Thursday morning and spent time with Angelle, Mike and the kids playing at the park - the carrousel was a hit - and eating yummy poboys. We visited with Britt for a little while then to the hotel to get dressed for the rehersal supper. The rehersal went well - such an amazing church. It's so beautiful we didn't need any flowers except for a few pew markers. The rehersal supper was held at Jimmy's parents house. Good food - a few glasses of wine - and lots of fun visiting - my children, my parents and all my sisters were there - really special. Brittany and Jimmy gave Gee a gold cross and me a Mignon Faget silver snow cone - cocoanut of course (yes there is a story about that from Zac and Britt's childhood). But the highlight for Gee and I was the beautiful thank you cards written to each of us separately - and to all her bridesmaids. That was so thoughtful - and will always be treasured!

Friday morning arrived with some bad news - one of my sisters was ill and had to go to the hospital. She is fine - but couldn't attend the wedding - which was a great disappointment for the bride and me (Carolyn and Cindy - we missed you both so much!!!) Janice stepped in as a reader - thanks Jan! Brittany, Angelle and I went to lunch with the bridesmaids @ Superior Grill - the food was so yummy. Friday night was spent visiting in the bridal suite with Britt, Pam, Angelle, Leah, Erin, Adam and I. It was a nice quiet, relaxing night - just what we needed. Jimmy, Zac, and Mike when out for a while - with a few others.

Saturday was busy! I ran around checking the reception area for wedding cake - flowers - etc - not that I needed to - the Hampton Inn handled everything so well. We had hair and makeup artisits in Britt's room - thanks Pam for doing my hair - I loved it! My GRITS friends - coordinated by Lynn - sent food and drinks from Whole Foods to the bridal suite. Everything was delicious and we had plenty. Joan was with us the whole time and was such a great help - and it was just nice to hang out with her. Janice arrived in time to tie all the bridesmaids bows. The photographer arrived around 4ish and I helped Brittany dress then of course - lots of pics which I can't wait to see. Brittany was stunning - her dress was perfect for her! Gee kept popping in the room to help with whatever we needed - he was so great - and I was able to relax. We got in the limos and headed for the church - without getting wet! (Of course - it was a rainy day!).

What more is there to say about that church? Iron pews - a beautiful gold altar! It truly is amazing to see. I love that the ceremony is not a blur - I remember most of it! All my girls walked down the aisle - Leah and Erin in their precious dresses carrying their flower baskets - Angelle looking great in purple and smiling so beautifully - Zac walked with Laura (my neice) - and Bittany with Gee - she seemed so happy and relaxed and looked amazing. Brittany and Jimmy looked so happy on the altar - and seemed relaxed - although Jimmy kept talking and the priest had to give him a look! After some pictures at the church we headed back to the hotel to the reception.

Everything was great at the reception - the food was so delicious - the band was great really great (Escalade Dance and Show Band!). Highlights? Britt and Gee dancing together - Britt and Jimmy dancing together - Jimmy and his friends with a crazy double dutch jump rope dance - Gee with some good moves - Zac with some good moves - having Janice and Lige there - having my parents there! - surrounded by family and friends dancing - being on the stage with Gee, Britt and Jimmy, and Jimmy's parents for a song - Jimmy having a solo stage performance. It flew by - but I remember so much of it! There were a few people not there whom I really wanted there - Carolyn, Cindy, and Jean & Kathy - but that's life.

Sunday we met all our family and friends for breakfast in the hotel. Gee and I helped Britt and Jimmy check out of their room and I took them home to pack for the honeymoon. Angelle & family and Gee & I and Zac spent the day at Kevin and Kathy's house with various cousins and in laws just visitng. We took the kids back to the park and fed the ducks - I loved it when Zac ran through the birds with Erin - she was laughing all the way.

Monday - all who were left checked out of the hotel and headed home. Of course there has already been honeymoon adventures - canceled flights - not making it all the way to their destination till tomorrow - lost luggage - craziness! But they are married - and all is complete. Whew!

Halloween fun

Gee and I spent the weekend in the woods - at a very scary Halloween party! Our artists friends, Brent and Sandy, create and display various scary scenes in the woods on their property - and have a party! The art work is unbelieveable - fighting skeleton armies, a huge Medusa, and various scary creatures are hanging out along 4-5 trails. It's really amazing! Of course everyone costumed! We enjoyed good friends, food and an enormous bonfire which is expected to continue to burn for a week. Thanks Sandy and Brent - for another great halloween party.

Today we watched some of the Saints game - go Saints and LSU! - at Britt and Jimmy's before heading home. So nice to have them in New Orleans.

Two weekends ago we attended a couples shower for the future bride and groom. We had fun hanging out with Britt, Jimmy, Zac, Pam, Peter, Lacey, Clint, and a bunch of Jimmy's friends and family. Jimmy's family and friends are really nice and very welcoming - and definitely know how to have a great party.

Lots more things coming - baby Adam, engagement party for a friend's daughter, another shower, KBA party, trip to NC - and that just brings us to December! Life is busy and good - we are blessed!

Parties, games and work - oh my!

We attended our first "Brittany & Jimmy" party Saturday night. It was a western theme so we had on cowboy hats/boots/scarves. The home (Jimmy's sisters) was so beautiful - loved the centerpiece on the dining room table - boots with flowers in them. It was nice to meet Jimmy's sister and friends - and to see Britt's law school friends. We had a great time!

We spent the night at Britt's and I must say her house looks so nice! They painted the living room - the color is perfect with her furniture and pictures. I love the new furniture arrangement also - the living room definitely looks bigger. My favorite is the guest room - the purple/blue color is really beautiful and the bed with Granny's quilt is cozy and comfy. Very nice - Britt!

Sunday morning was lazy -beignet's for breakfast - and then off to the Saints game. The dome was unbelieveably loud - and of course the Saints ROCKED!!! We had such a great time! I really prefer watching a game on TV - but I LOVE being in the dome with that crazy crowd! LSU and Saints are undefeated - life is good!

Work is still crazy busy - IEP's - parents that don't attend meetings - progress reports - reevaluations - therapy, therapy, therapy - SACS walk through is coming soon. Things are better now - I'm getting in the groove - but I am so tired when I get home. Oh well - at least I'm not bored and looking for things to do!

Well school started and I stopped blogging! This has been the hardest beginning of a school year that I remember in a long time! We have lots of changes - most are good but still hard to get used to. We have a problem parent which is never a good thing. I still love working with the students - but it wears me out! I'm tired in the evenings - and not working out on a regular basis. I know things will get better - and they already are. Maybe since I am eligible to retire that's in the back of my mind.

We tailgated last weekend at LSU with some friends. It was pretty hot during the day - but the evening was nice. Gee cooked a jambalaya - his new receipe is so delicious. We slept at Zac's Saturday night and had lunch with Zac, Britt, & Jimmy on Sunday. Love, love, love my kids!!!! Gee and I are so lucky to have such great kids!!!

Time to address invitations for the wedding. I volunteered to address them all - and have until 11/16 to get them done - so that shouldn't be a problem. We have a western theme party for Britt and Jimmy next weekend so today I shopped for a shirt. What I bought is really tacky - and I am already having second thoughts. Will probably trade it in for a white shirt & cowboy hat instead - I'm just not that brave!

Crabs and beer

Last night we went to a seafood restaurant at the end of the bayou where then have delicious boiled crabs and the beer is free! That's right - drink all the keg beer you want as long as you are eating. We had boiled crabs and fried crab fingers. Everything was delicious - but it's kind of like being in a Seinfeld show except instead of the Soup Nazi there is a Crab Nazi. The owner is quite a character.

We also went to Downtown Live at the courthouse square to listen to a band we like. The lead singer is a friend of ours. We had a great time- beautiful night - good music. On Sunday we went to Mackinaw Island where we ate fudge and toured a really cool fort.

Then we went to the Soo Locks in Sault Ste Marie where we watched a 1000 foot ship enter a lock with only 2 1/2 feet to spare on each side.

On Monday we went to a lighthouse on Lake Superior:

and lower Tahquemenon Falls. Jean rowed a boat over to an island where we planned on spending some time in the water but instead ran from mosquitoes. It was really beautiful there and I was really disappointed that no one had warned us about the mosquitoes.

We then traveled to Upper Tahquemenon Falls which was equally beautiful:

Our next stop was Munising, Michigan where we went on a boat tour of Pictured Rocks National Park. It was stunning:

We headed back to Jean's house the next day. We tried to go to a Detroit Tigers baseball game Wednesday night but left early due to a rain delay. I was glad to be home on Thursday - with lots of great memories - especially of family time together. Thanks Jean and Kathy - we had fun!

It's cold in Michigan!!!

So packing mostly shorts and short sleeve blouses wasn't such a good idea for this trip - it's pretty cool here. Daytime in the 60's and nights in the 40's! First thing I did was buy a sweatshirt. So far we have spent our time in Midland - the downtown area is really neat - lots of cute shops and a great park area where there are three bridges that meet in the center of a river- they call it the tridge. We went to the Loons baseball game last night where we won a free burger and saw some great fireworks. The baseball game was good - the loons won. Today we toured the Alden Dow house - he is a famous architect in the area who studied under Frank Lloyd Wright. His house is amazing! Tomorrow we head for the Upper Penninsula. I think the best trips combine visiting with family and seeing a new area!

Cruising

Well - that was crazy fun! We just got back from a four day cruise (Carnival - Fantasy) out of New Orleans - with 55 family members - do I have to say more? We laughed, danced, swam, had a few cocktails, ate, then started all over again the next day. Even though there were 1600 people on the ship - everywhere we went we ran into someone we knew. Our accommodations were nice and the food was good -- not great. Our only disappointment with the ship was the pool was way to small and there was only one so it was always crowded - and it was July heat. We hope to have many more family vacations - and hopefully in the future everyone can come!
Best part of the trip was vacationing with our kids - all six of them - yes Mr O - you are now offically adopted.

Now - a rest at home - then Michigan. Can't wait to see Janice, Jean, and family.

Home again

Gee and I just got home from a week's vacation in North Carolina. We are both a little tired today - from a week of playing with the kids and the long, long, long drive home! Highlights were swimming in the pool, listening to Erin's conversations and her trying to say the name game (at 22 months!), Leah waking me up every morning when she gets up, snuggles while we were reading books, swinging on the front porch swing, hugs, hugs, hugs. I love visiting with Angelle and Mike - just experiencing a glimpse of their life. Everyday life is so precious! Anyway - there is no place like home and it's nice to be here.

We needed a quick easy supper tonight since LSU baseball was on TV so here's what we did. We cup up youkon gold potatoes (3), a few carrots, a vidalia onion, and one stalk of celery - tossed everything in olive oil and kosher salt, and baked it in the toaster oven at 400 for 30 minutes. We bought a baked chicken at Rouse's, brewed some iced tea and with 10 minutes of preparation we had a delicious meal. I love easy suppers! Any ideas for tomorrow night?

I bought a dress!!!

I'm in Orange Beach Alabama with my friends for a beach week and today we had to go to Mobile to bring a friend's daughter to the airport. On the way back we stopped at Dillards for something for a friend and while we were leaving we walked through the long dress section. My friends were asking me what I was going to wear to the wedding and I asked for suggestions and we found the most beautiful dress. They didn't have my size so I tried the size smaller - which normally doesn't work - but it fit beautifully. It a dark sage/gray green with a thin jacket to go over it and tiny beads on the bodice and collar of the jacket. Some of the beads have a little purple in them so hopefully I will blend with the purple bridesmaids dresses. The materials is really sparkly - I just love it. So - that was easy and I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The beach is great - not too hot in the shade and the water is calm. We have had such a good time so far. I am sooooo lucky!!!!!!!!!

Summer time!

It's finally here - I lOVE when school ends and I can just relax - well not really - just get busy with my summer projects and travels. So far I have trips planned to Florida, North Carolina, a cruise, and Michigan. I'm starting to think that work is intefering with traveling so something may have to go - and it won't be traveling!

My main summer project is going to be to clean, organize, and get rid of stuff!!!! Ugh! I hate clutter and that's how this house feels at the moment. So Goodwill/St Vincent's - here I come. I also plan to exercise more this summer - swimming/body pump mainly.

But the main summer project is to help Britt with the wedding!!!!! Hopefully we will get most of it done in the next two months so it won't be too crazy in the fall. I did not raise an undecisive daughter which is great! You are doing a great job so far, Britt.

Well - I guess I better get started...

Bachlorette Party

Last night we had a bridal shower and bachlorette party for two teachers at my school who are getting married soon. The shower was at Copelands and at the end a limo picked us up and took us around for several hours. We had a great time - singing, laughing, and dancing. Lots of fun.

Today was just a relaxing day at home. A little yard work, lots of reading, and a nap in the hammock. I researched "knock out roses" and have decided to plant a couple of them in my garden. They are care free and bloom most of the year. Mom has a couple and I really like them. We worked on digging out a Sago Palm that died today - good spot for the roses!

Tomorrow we are going to New Orleans to visit with Britt and Jimmy - go out to eat - maybe a snowball (Angelle - you have me craving them!) and see the baby kitties. Should be fun.

Two weddings and a funeral

Actually - two funerals - but one is in Washington State. My Mom's sister-in-law died last week - Aunt Margaret. She was a wonderfully different for all my other aunts mostly because she was a "northerner". Her accent - her vocabulary - her life experiences were so different from ours. I didn't know her very well but found her to be warm, happy and loving. The other funeral was my Dad's sister - Aunt Bertha. She was one funny lady - always teasing and fun to be around. She was the female version of my Dad - and although I never knew my grandpa - I was told he was the same way too. She will be missed. My parents are now the only surviving siblings from their families.

We also had two weddings this month - both lots of fun. One was in Houma and one in Point Clear, Alabama. The Alabama one was very memorable to say the least. I went with two girlfriends and stayed at the Grand Marriot Resort - what a great place to stay. The grounds were beautiful - right on the bay - and there was lots of activities planned - croquette - bike riding - kayaking. One of my friends said it was like being in the Dirty Dancing Movie. The rehersal supper Friday night was held at Five Rivers Resort - lots of fun and delicious food. Saturday we took a short walk along the bay to a beautiful old home where we had shrimp and grits and mimosas under the oaks with of course the beautiful bay views. The dessert was apple cake with candied pecans and caramel sauce. WOW!!! The wedding was at the Grand Saturday night. Highlights were the appletini's (which were the exact lime green as the bridesmaids dresses), the food, the awesome band, dancing and - get ready for this - the fireworks!!! Yes - fireworks - over the bay - un be lie ve able!!! We were all astonished - then our friend confided in us about the cost of the wedding. I'm not going to put it in the post - but I would say it's easily 10 times the cost of any wedding I've ever been too. The mother of the groom is a very close friend - and we had so much fun dancing and enjoying a few cocktails. After the wedding we sat in until the wee hours of the morning on a swing overlooking the bay laughing about old times. Sunday morning we had breakfast in a great little cafe in Fairhope before heading home. What a great area - I will visit there more often!

It's been a while...

I just reread my blog and realized it's been a while - so here goes.

The crawfish etouffee festival was delicious. We met Janice and Lige there - Kristin, Scott & friends had a booth so we hung out there. We tasted lots of delicious varieties of etouffee and listened to cajun music. The day was spectacular - cool and sunny (although I did get sunburnt!). We had lots of fun and hope to make this an annual event.

One of my friends and I (Sharon) headed to Baton Rouge on a Saturday to eat at Sangria's and do a little shopping. We explored bead and pottery stores on the way there (I resisted the pottery although I was tempted) and hit the sales at Ann Taylor Loft. It was a great girls day - good being with you Sharon!

Nothing is better than being with family - and that's just how Easter was this year. Angelle, Mike, Leah and Erin arrived on Friday and we spent the day eating and relaxing. Gee had planned on getting a blow up pool for the kids but we decided to improvise instead and filled a boat we had with water and had a boat pool! The girls loved it! We took a family photo at a local photographer's (our Christmas present from the kids - great idea!) and had a delicious meal of steaks, potatoes, asparagus, and strawberry pie! My husband is the best cook!!! We then spent the afternoon visiting, playing with the kids, and just enjoying being together as a family. We are so seldom all together that those times are even more precious - each moment treasured. Easter Sunday was crazy with Gee's family here - lots of people and lots of fun - and MORE FOOD!!! I am so full!!! Monday we went took Daddy's boat to Lake Decade and Leah tried fishing while Erin explored the boat and everything in it. Tuesday we drove to Baton Rouge to eat at Sangria's. We took a side trip to see Mike the Tiger also.

MarchAprilMay

I love it when the third nine weeks ends and we are in the last stretch of school! We have three weeks of testing this nine weeks - so that only means 6 weeks of therapy. Just about all of my students are where I want them to be so progress has been good. We also have an Americal Idol contest going on - each week we predict who is being voted off and we keep track of who predicts correctly. Right now we all have 0 points!

Last week I went with my GRITS friends to paint a picture at a local framing store. We painted Fleur de lies! It was fun - although it was more like coloring with oil paints that true painting. Mine is decent although I wish I had some more paint to work on it. My Mom always used to say her painting wasn't finished - now I know what she means - although my ability is no where near hers! I wouldn't mind trying another one!

Gee and I spent last weekend cleaning the garage and planting flowers/veggies. It was a beautiful weekend and we really enjoyed being outside. Daddy and Gee ran the crawfish pond on Sunday - they caught a few and boiled them at Mom and Dad's. Gee also ran it this week but we think someone ran it before us so we didn't get very many. So Gee cooked steaks instead - yum!!!

Sangria's is the best ever!!!

Well I must say I that the food I ate at Sangria's Restaurant is the best food I've had in a long time! We were treated to a palatal feast - san pedrito, brisket burritos, sangria special salad,
camerones de diablo, lime pie - we had so many delicious samples. Mmmmmmmmmm. Another successful gourmet with good friends, good food, good drinks!!! If you haven't been there - go now!!! I wish I could!!! Check out website

http://sangriagrillandbar.com/index.html

Friday night was a good time also - Brittany, Jimmy, Zac, Jenna, Gee and I saw Cirque du Soleil - Saltimbanco - in Baton Rouge. This was my second Cirque performance and I was not disappointed - it was outstanding. We went to Sangria's before and after - love the white Sangria. We spent the night at Zac's and played with Brie - she is precious and a bundle of energy. I'm still a light weight compared to some of the others in the class but it does feel good to be past the beginning - constantly sore - wondering if I should be doing this - stage. My only problem are lunges. Do to old age (yes I am briefly admitting it) I have a wierd foot problem and can't do lunges (woohoo). But - all other exercises are good to go!!!

Last Sunday we went to John's viewing stands on the parade route on Veterans. I'm impressed! The stands are huge and a large part of it is covered. There was lots of room to stand, sit, or whatever. We stayed for two parades and in between I went with Britt and Jimmy to meet Jack and Sam - their new kittens. They were so cute - and of course loved their Mimi. We had lots of fun being with the family and enjoying the parade - even saw Dave and Lige on the float!!!

I am so ready for a few days off next week - and so are the kids. Mardi Gras has them hyped up and the atmosphere at school is a little crazy. We all need a break - two more days!

Time to watch the end of American Idol so I can see who they kept...

Weekend Fun

Gee and I had such a fun and relaxing weekend. Friday night was my dad's birthday and we had a party for him with family and friends. Gail's gumbo was awesome and I think he really enjoyed his presents. It was nice to see my family - we just don't do that often enough.

Saturday morning we left for Lafayette. It was Kayla's 21st birthday so Janice and Lige had a crawfish boil in her honor. It was a beautiful day with high's in the 70's (my favorite temperature!) and we had a great time visiting and meeting Kayla's friends. Most of us ended up at the Tap Room later that night - including Zac and several of his friends. It's really nice- has a very upscale feeling and tons of people were there. It's located in River Ranch - a beautiful community - sort of a town within a town.

Some of you may know that Gee and I have terrible luck in hotels - we ALWAYS end up by the noisy people and we never get much sleep. Well Gee and I are telling Zac about some of our experiences as we are walking to our room and what do we hear but a room full of people laughing and talking really loud. And the closer we get to our room the louder it gets. They were right next door - unbelieveable! - not again! So we decided that if they didn't settle down that night we were going to complain. Well it ended up being fine and we were able to sleep - but really - of all the luck!

Sunday we went to Bass Pro Shop in Denhim Springs. I've been to several of these stores but never one like this one. It's huge - way bigger that any I've ever seen and absolutely beautiful inside. It was like being outdoors! I didn't look at much of the merchandise - I couldn't get over the building! We didn't buy anything but we did have fun. We also went through a few antique shops - I bought a pretty blue glass bowl for $6.50 and we bought a bay leaf tree at a nursery - Gee has been wanting one - now all we need is the crawfish!

So our weekend was the greatest - my husband is the greatest - and now - time to read my book! Bye!

I Love Ribs!!!!

Angelle was right - ribs in the crock pot are awesome! Here's what Gee did:

For two racks of ribs - serves 4:

Mix together 1 small bottle paprika, 2 TBS white sugar, 1 tsp onion powder, salt and pepper. Rub on raw ribs and place in a ziploc bag to marinate 4-6 hours or overnight. This is a receipe from the Neely's I believe - and actually we only marinated ours for about and hour and an half. Gee also added a little BBQ sauce to the bag - just use your favorite.

Place in a crock pot on high for 5 hours. Slice, resauce, and put back in crock pot for another hour to hour and a half or until tender. YUM!!! Enjoy!

Miscellaneous stuff

I just brought a book that Gee and I are talking about right now - it's called "Eat This, Not That". There are several versions - one for eating out - one for kids - but I bought the one for the supermarket. It compares lots of stuff like different cheeses and makes recommendations for what is healthier. Angelle - your white/wheat bread is on the Eat This! side. Anyway - the book is faily inexpensive and I think we will use it to identify healthier choices at the grocery store.

Gee and I have lots of upcoming plans - I'm so excited because we have been staying home a lot. But we have a trip to Lafayette to go the the TAP Room and a trip to Baton Rouge to go to Sangria's and a trip to LaPlace for a superbowl party! We were hoping for an overnight trip to New Orleans and basketball game but that was canceled for a fishing trip for Gee - oh well - it's a really neat fishing opportunity. I also have a wedding shower that I am helping to give, a Mardi Gras tea, and a spring wedding in Alabama. So - yeah - things to look forward to!

I went to an art festival in Houma today and although there were very few booths (it's a new festival) I bought two beautiful, inexpensive necklaces. The artist is making earing to match both necklaces - can't wait. I have a beach glass bracelet that I'm not happy with - maybe I'll get her to redo it into a necklace. Hmmmm.

Well after my first week back at work - of which I missed about half since I was at home/doctor's office sick! - another Friday night is here. And although all I'm doing is surfing the internet, reading, and watching a little tv - I love it!!! Wierd - how we are supposed to try to enjoy each moment of our lives - not always looking back or forward - but still there is the lure of a Friday night for working people - the beginning of the weekend.

I am a little tired - today all of the students who had an A or B in conduct for the 2nd nine weeks - got to attend a "dance". We had a DJ in the backyard along with other fun things for the kids to do. This went on all day because the kids attended one grade level at a time. I think those of us who "worked" the event enjoyed it as much as the kids! How many jobs allows you to spend the day dancing with a bunch of little kids with a DJ all day? They were precious and we had a great time. Once again - I love my job!!! It's so cool that I could retire in April and I'm not ready. I am NOT one of those burned out teachers counting the days - I am so blessed!

So I just finished the book Angelle gave me for Christmas - "The Hour I First Believed" by Wally Lamb. He is such a great writer - but his characters suffer so much. I'm never sure after finishing one of his books if I liked it or not - but I am always glad I read it. So do I recommend that you read it - hmmmmmmmmmmm - I just don't know!

Tomorrow Britt and I are going wedding dress shopping- woohoo!!! How will it be to see my precious daughter in a wedding dress? I can't imagine really. Another moment in time to be treasured always! I can't wait - B. Love you!

Christmas and Wedding Bells

I'm finished! Presents are bought and wrapped. I have a few decorations around the house - and I decided what to cook for the Christmas lunch at school with my friends - Christmas Eve - and Christmas Day. Christmas parties started today with "Christmas at Jeanie's" who is one of my good friends who has us over every Christmas. We have a faculty party Wednesday after school, a faculty luncheon Thursday, a party and wedding Friday night and a party Saturday night. We also had a wedding last Saturday in New Orleans that was lots of fun. The band was great and we had fun dancing with our friends. I am so glad to be finished and ready to enjoy the fun part of Christmas!

As most of you know - Brittany and Jimmy are engaged!!! Gee and I couldn't be more pleased to welcome Jimmy to the family. So we get to spend the next year planning a wedding - which I am really looking forward to. I want to enjoy the planning - and be there for Brittany and Jimmy to help them with whatever they choose. Welcome to the family Jimmy - I now know who my third son will be - and I couldn't be happier!

Christmas shopping - there has to be a better way!

I'm tired of Christmas shopping!!! I really don't shop that often anyway but going every year at Christmas among all the crowds of people is just crazy! Today - I needed some black heels for a wedding we have next weekend - there was a child jumping rope in the shoe store and two other children throwing a ball!!!!! That's ridiculous!!! I never saw the manager say anything to either of them or their parents. However - I did find heels for $19.99!!!

My birthday was so nice this year. Gee, Brittany, Jimmy and I went to a great restaurant - Emeril's Delmonico - Wednesday night. The food was delicious and I loved the atmosphere - the restaurant is in an old New Orleans house so it had that cozy at home feeling. On thursday I spent the day with Zac - he had a test run - and after we hung out at his house till he was ok for me to go. His new furniture is very comfy and looks great. Then Friday - my friends at school cooked a birthday lunch and cake for me!!! Next week I'll have a birthday supper with several close friends - one of whom has a birthday today. I got lots of cards - thanks everyone - who could ask for a better birthday? I am so blessed!!!

Update - November Activities

Mike - Can't make you any Thai food - I didn't get to go because of jury duty!!! But for Thanksgiving I did make some smoking shrimp rolls (literally - I burnt the bottom) that everyone raved about so I'll make those when we visit.

The guy was guilty and will be in prison for a long time - bank fraud. We found him guilty of stealing account numbers and pin numbers, going to ATM machines, and taking money directly out of accounts. I learned quite a bit about the banking industry!

Thanksgiving was lots of fun - almost all of the family was there and the food was great!!! Family updates - Hilary is looking great and has a new beau - Laura just got back from CloseUp - Hailey is growing and really precious - Jimmy had a flat time and Gee was the hero once again!

And that's that!

November activities

Gee and I tailgated at LSU this weekend for the LSU/Tulane game. Britt & Jimmy - John and Joanna & kids - Melissa , Joshua, & Jacob - and others were there. Gee cooked a chicken and sausage gumbo and we fed about 50 people. We had lots of fun but are both exhausted tonight!

Britt and I are taking a cooking class tomorrow night at a local restaurant - Clare's. We will be learning how to cook Thai food. Several of my friends will be there so it should be fun. Other events are Corks and Canvass - Melissa's birthday event where we will bring wine and all paint the same picture - and Cootie at Melissa's new house. We also have the Twilight party coming up. Lots to do!

I have jury duty in New Orleans tomorrow - yuck! I don't think I have ever driven by myself in downtown New Orleans before so I am not looking forward to doing that. Oh well - hopefully I won't get picked - although my track record is not good! However, I doubt I will get out of it in New Orelans because the judge is my cousin or I know the lawyers. Oh well.........

Twilight - and other stuff.

Brittany recommended I read the Twilight series - well it turns out that lots of people at my school are reading them also! One of my friends has decided to have a Twilight party and a teacher at school found several websites where you can order Twilight shirts, etc. I'm on the third book and have to limit the amount of reading I do each day so I can get things done at home.

Zac is getting the keys to his new house today. We are going there on Sunday to see the house and bring him some stuff. I basically took enough stuff from our kitchen to get him started - we sure have a lot of stuff!!!! He's not going to move in yet cause he wants to paint first. I'll take some pics Sunday.

Things around here are back to normal for us - no garage door yet and we have other damage we will fix when later - but many people are still not in their homes. We still have two schools at our school so things are crowded. Our school participates in Relay for Life which raises money for cancer research every year and today we sold lunches at school as part of our fundraiser (we do this about once a month). Anyway - we sold 100 lunches today! That's a lot of adults in one school - and I know not everyone bought one.

Life takes so many turns...

When we came back from the hurricane days, our principal told us that based on a comment made by one of our teachers in a faculty meeting and the sermon at Mass the previous weekend, he had invited a school that flooded to share our campus for while their school is cleaned. I was immediately glad that he decided to make this offer - how often do we have the opportunity in our lives to really make a difference in someone else's life? So my friend Lynn and I figured out how we would fit another person in our tiny room. The new speech therapist in my room is someone whom I did not know at all - but I find I am really enjoying her company. So out of this tragedy I've made a new friend - what a blessing! Although, it is a little crazy to work at a school that now has approximately 1350 students and 140 staff!

Gee and I finally have the outside of the house back to normal - although we still need a roof and a garage door. We had friends over to watch LSU win Saturday night (and to eat yummy "Slap Your Mama Roast" poboys). Sunday we traveled to Baton Rouge and had lunch with Zac, Britt and Jimmy. We drove by a house Zac is looking at purchasing - very nice and in a neighborhood where he has lots of friends.

Tomorrow night - Cootie at Katie's - sounds like fun!

So sad...

Our beautiful bayou areas have once again flooded. Many friends and co-workers once again are bailing out their homes and trying to rebuild. Our swamps and natural seafood estuaries are again flooded with salt water which will continue to destroy them and kill the majestic cypress and oak trees that are native to our area. We are in desparate need of federal funds to fight coastal erosion in our parish - since we are the fastest eroding land mass in the continental United States. But if history repeats itself we will not be given the funding necessary and eventually this area will no longer exist. Once again - Gee and I have to face facts - we didn't move far enough - time to move again. The only channel we can watch is FOX which must be the worst channel on TV!!!!!!!!! Who watches Simpsons, Family Guy, the Hole gameshow, some wierd show last night I can't remember the name of, Judge Judy, Dewey, and Louie? Even the local Fox news station only reports New Orleans news (the hurricanne did not hit there!) and decided on Sunday and Monday that we didn't need to see the projected path for Hurricanne Ike cause they didn't want us to worry!!! Hello!!!!!!!!!! Thank goodness for the internet! I didn't realize before this that I don't watch shows on FOX - at least not that I can remember. I decided to go buy a book today since TV is so bad but the local book stores are still closed. not my favorite thing to do. Oh well......

If you haven't read Magic Hour by Kristin Hannah you might want to give it a try. It's about a little girl who walks out of the woods into a small town unable to communicate and afraid of people. The setting is the rainforest area of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. Mom, Carolyn, Britt and I were there years ago and it is such a beautiful area. Anyway - it was a good book.

So I haven't been getting up early to work out since school started! I promised myself that since my swimming days were over (since it rains EVERY afternoon) that I'd exercise in the morning - now I need to get motivated! Definitely tomorrow!

We had a nice time Sunday celebrating Britt's graduation and birthday. Seems we don't see my family that much anymore so having a Sunday dinner was fun. Shawny's girls are growing so much and her new friend seems really nice. Gee's pork steaks were fabulous and the macs were a hit as always. We did it right this time - two simple appetizers - three entrees and one dessert - not too much but plenty for all!

YEAH - Britt is in New Orleans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New Orleans is only about 30 minutes closer to Houma than Baton Rouge but it is all interstate and seems like soooo much closer. We made three trips in one week - to move stuff from Houma to Britts - to take Britt and Jimmy out to eat - and for a bowling tournament we always go to but this time I spent my time with Britt instead of entertaining wives of other bowlers - which is also fun! Gee said he is so glad to have a daughter who now lives in "his town" - he's looking forward to showing Britt some of his favorite spots. Although they are happy working at jobs (such as writing) that require solitude and close attention, Counselors do quite well with individuals or groups of people, provided that the personal interactions are not superficial, and that they find some quiet, private time every now and then to recharge their batteries. Counselors are both kind and positive in their handling of others; they are great listeners and seem naturally interested in helping people with their personal problems. Not usually visible leaders, Counselors prefer to work intensely with those close to them, especially on a one-to-one basis, quietly exerting their influence behind the scenes.
Counselors are scarce, little more than one percent of the population, and can be hard to get to know, since they tend not to share their innermost thoughts or their powerful emotional reactions except with their loved ones. They are highly private people, with an unusually rich, complicated inner life. Friends or colleagues who have known them for years may find sides emerging which come as a surprise. Not that Counselors are flighty or scattered; they value their integrity a great deal, but they have mysterious, intricately woven personalities which sometimes puzzle even them.
Counselors tend to work effectively in organizations. They value staff harmony and make every effort to help an organization run smoothly and pleasantly. They understand and use human systems creatively, and are good at consulting and cooperating with others. As employees or employers, Counselors are concerned with people's feelings and are able to act as a barometer of the feelings within the organization.
Blessed with vivid imaginations, Counselors are often seen as the most poetical of all the types, and in fact they use a lot of poetic imagery in their everyday language. Their great talent for language-both written and spoken-is usually directed toward communicating with people in a personalized way. Counselors are highly intuitive and can recognize another's emotions or intentions - good or evil - even before that person is aware of them. Counselors themselves can seldom tell how they came to read others' feelings so keenly. This extreme sensitivity to others could very well be the basis of the Counselor's remarkable ability to experience a whole array of psychic phenomena.
Mohandas Gandhi, Sidney Poitier, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jane Goodall, Emily Bronte, Sir Alec Guiness, Carl Jung, Mary Baker Eddy, Queen Noor are examples of the Counselor Idealist (INFJ).

Have you lifted a heart lately?

I love reading books where I learn things! I just re-read "The Secret Life of Bees" and there are many lessons in this book but one in particular is about lifting another person's heart. In the story Lily asks August why she painted her house pink. August replies that her sister May (who is a little different) went with her to the paint store and fell in love with a bright pink color. And although August wanted to paint the house beige, she decided to go with the pink. Her reasoning was "some things in life don't matter much - like the color of a house. How big is that in the overall scheme of life? But lifting a person's heart - that matters. The whole problem with people is they know what matters - but they don't choose it." Now I'm not sure I would have chosen to live in a pink house - but how many opportunities do we have to choose what will lift someone's heart? And how often do we miss those? I would love to incorporate this idea into my daily life - at least begin to see those moments. What do you think?

If you haven't been to Brevard, NC you might want to give it a try. We stayed at a beautiful cabin and hiked to several great waterfalls. We had a great time playing in creeks and enjoying nature. I bought a beautiful piece of pottery at Muddabbers Pottery and a fused glass bowl at the Glass Feather. We had a fun and relaxing vacation.

So two more weeks of summer and then school starts. I really don't mind - especially since this is my 30th year! I love summer - but working is still fine with me.

Britt and Jimmy are taking the bar exam this week - so prayers please! Almost the entire Theriot family was at John and Joanna's camp - having a good time as you can imagine! Tons of laughter - food - boating - crazy sleeping arrangements (although Gee and I got there first and had a bedroom!!!!) - fireworks - extra people since lots of people brought friends. Some of the Fernin cousins came on Saturday - good to see them. Fun was had by all - as usual.

I just read Angelle's book recommendation - "Firefly Lane" by Kristin Hannah. When I started it I liked it right away but kept thinking there is no way this book is gonna make me cry - I was wrong. I bawled like a baby at the end. Loved, loved, loved the book - read it!!!!!

We are leaving for North Carolina in three days - I CAN'T WAIT!!! I love all the pics and news on the Gallers website but it's not like being there. Wish Z and B and J were coming - but I guess Mom's always want all their chicks together. We will be together on the cruise - and sooner that that I hope.

Update on summer projects

In the beginning of the summer I listed 4 things I want to do this summer and I decided to look back and see how I am doing.

1. Exercise more - doing that
2. Stained glass - doing that
3. Read more - doing that
4. Clean out closets - have not done that!

Oh well - three out of four ain't bad!!!

Our patio is finished and looking great - I'm doing the final mopping today - just mopped it 4 times! Hopefully we will move our furniture and plants back in it later today. I sewed new cushion covers and replanted a few plants. We are having a "cool front" so it actually felt nice early this morning on the porch.

Last weekend we went to Gee's elementary school reunion. It was fun although the only people I knew were the Theriot's, Kennedy's and KBA's - which I guess is alot of people. Gee and I spent the night at John and Joanna's and went to the Riverwalk Sunday and to Harrah's. We also had a snowball - cocoanut cream of course - I really do enjoy New Orleans.

I love to swim!

So Joan and I are swimming at 7:30 in the morning three times a week. The water is perfect and we swim for 45-60 minutes. My arms have been a little sore but it feels so good - I think swimming is my favorite form of exercise. Thanks - Joan - for installing a pool.

Carolyn and I have spent two weeks this summer viewing houses - she is moving back to Houma - and after viewing approximately 25 houses and putting in a bid on three - she has finally been successful and she and Cindy will be moving into their new house around mid July. It's a really nice three bedroom/two bath home with a great layout - built in bookcases - fireplace - back patio - and two car garage. So - if anyone out there needs help finding a house to buy I am quite the expert by now on what not to buy!

Gee's surgery is Tuesday - keep him in your prayers - although I'm sure everything will be fine! I'll have to be sure and look good that day since he will finally be able to see me with both eyes - ha!

We will be installing ceramic tile on the screened in porch soon - just found a tile and a friend to install it so hopefully this will happen in the near future. Now - I just have to recover my cushions and spruce up the porch a little.

Ahhh - the beach!

Just got back from a week at the beach with the girls. We relaxed on the beach - read books - shopped - swam - the usual stuff. I read three books - Stephen King's "Bag of Bones" - wierd - Claire Cook's "Life's a Beach" - nice fun novel - and Jennifer Haig's "Miss Kimble" - really good.
This is out third annual trip and we will definitely be back next year. Carolyn told me about a great backpack beach chair with a canopy top so I was in the shade the whole time - thanks sis!
We bought some nice jewelry at Blue Girl Bead Shop and some nice pottery.

So I will start exercising Monday!!!!!!!!!!!! Joan and I are going to start swimming - I will begin my weight routine again - and do some pilates. Time to get serious and lose a few pounds - too much Key Lime Pie!

Week 1

Week one of summer vacation was fun - especially when Carolyn and Cindy decided t0 nix the northshore and move back home!!!!!!!!!!! I was reserved when she initially told me cause I was afraid she would change her mind but now that it's set - YEAH!!!!

Gee and I haven't been "vetting" lately - it's in the shop - seems the transmission needed some work. I'm ready for it to come home!

Angelle asked the question on her blog about what we like about summer. I think my favorite this is daily life. I like just doing normal everyday things at my pace. I eat breakfast when I'm hungry instead of morning recess - I don't mind cleaning and doing laundry and paying bills. I like getting to watch daytime TV. I love window shopping and running errands with the idea that if I don't do it today I can always do it tomorrow. I guess this is what retirement will be like eventually.

I didn't have to work!!!!

I always have to work on Memorial Day but this year we ended school on Friday - yeah! - and I was able to celebrate the holiday with everyone else! We went to John and Joanna's camp in Slidell and had lots of fun boating and visiting and eating and enjoying a cocktail or two. Most of the family was able to come for either Sunday or Monday. John and Joanna's new boat is great - it fits a million people. That's the first time I was in a boat on Lake Pontratrain and it was definitely beautiful and fun - we took a late everning cruise. On Monday - John pulled some of the kids on a big blow up thing. They had fun. Anyway - I definitely prefer not working on Memorial Day!

Carolyn is in - continuing her job search on the North Shore. She and I are going tomorrow to look at places to rent and so she can interview some more. I'm looking forward to spending a little time with my sis - I miss her!

So - my first regular day off has been mostly chores - paying bill - washing - but it's just so nice to be able to do those regular things at my leisure. I just love waking up and thinking - hmmm - what will I do today? I am truly blessed!

Summer projects

Every May I start making a mental list of all the summer projects I'm going to do - little things like do the mending piled on my sewing maching and big things like clean out the pantry. Last summer I painted the living room/kitchen/halls. That was a huge project! So this year I'll post my list and see in August what I have actually completed.

1. Begin a stained glass project. I haven't worked in stained glass since Hurricanne Rita - and I really miss it. I'm thinking maybe something for my kitchen window - perhaps Bird or Paradise flowers - with a bevel border.

2. Exercise daily! I eat pretty healthy but am barely able to keep from gaining weight - so the key has to be exercise. The challenge will be to find something I can carry over into next school year - I hate getting up really early to exercise and after school I'm am often just tired and not in the mood. Any ideas? I might try Angelle's yoga - just not sure how much of it involves working on my knees - which is always a problem for me.

3. Read more - seems like during the school year I don't read as much so I'm ready.

4. Get rid of stuff! We have too much stuff . I hope to bring several loads of things we just don't need to Goodwill or St Vincents.

Anybody else have any summer goals?

WooHoo Britt

Brittany graduated with honors today - we couldn't be more proud of her. The graduation was really nice - great speaker - not too long - great seats. After, we went to the law school for a reception and they enjoyed lunch with Britt, Zac, Jimmy and his parents and niece. Everything was just wonderful. I can still remember when Brittany announced she wanted to be a lawyer when she grew up. Well, my dear, that day is here. I'm ready for a break - although it's been a good year. And this time next year I'll be retired and continuing to work - weird huh?

Last night Britt was awarded a scholarship from the Terrebonne Parish Lawyers Assn. They announced all of her accomplishments in law school - I knew them all but it was so neat to hear them announced in a meeting of lawyers. Yeah Britt - I am so proud of you!

The reunion last weekend was a lot of fun - great seeing cousins I hadn't seen in a while. I also enjoyed visiting with Janice and Larry. The french cousins were really nice except they only spoke French so that was difficult. There were a few interpreters there which helped some.

Age

Today at lunch (while we were eating poboys supplied by our courtesy committee) I discovered something a little disheartening - I was the oldest person in the room! I'm older than my principal, assistant principal, master teacher, secretary, and the others I eat lunch with. There is one lady who is a year younger than me and she and I were talking about how wierd it is to be in our 50's but not at all feel that old. Honestly - I feel like I am in my mid 30's. Getting old is just wierd!

So this weekend my family is having a family reunion with our cousins from the Marmande, France Region of Europe. It's been a long time since I saw many of my cousins so I am really looking forward to going. Janice and Larry will be here also which will be nice. I haven't seen her since last summer. The cousins from France speak French - obviously - so there will be a langauge barrier - but I hear they look like some of my Uncles so that will be neat to see.

Time for Grey's Anatomy...

Let's try this again

Obviously I did something wrong cause my pictures did not post - so here we go again. I just love this time of year - today is a beautiful day with cool breezes - Gee is working on the vet - my flowers are in full bloom - and I just took a nap on the "ham" - it doesn't get much better than that!

Friday afternoone Dad called to invite us to eat crawfish - and since Gee is on call I went by myself. We had a nice visit and I brought Gee the leftovers, promising Mom and Dad I would make crawfish pie with the ones he didn't eat. Well - Saturday - Gee called me from work saying he had two free sacks of crawfish! So we decided to boil them and peel them - which we did till our fingers were screaming! Today we made crawfish pies and crawfish etouffee - yummy! This is what I love about Louisiana - we have the best food by far! Hungry anyone?

Seven things

OK- now it's my turn:

Seven things I can’t do:

Whistle - you probably inherited that from me, Britt
Bite cold things.
Stay awake super late.
Lie without laughing - I never get anything over on anyone!
Ride a bike - I need to relearn.
Talk on the phone while driving - I can do this but don't like to.
Drink and drive.

Seven things I can do:

Find my way around - I have a good sense of direction.
Make stained glass windows.
Chill out by myself - I don't have to have a lot of people around.
Be patient.
Read all day!
Lay around on a beach, mountainside, or near a pool with a good magazine/book.
Teach children how to talk clearly.

Seven things I want to do before I die:
Travel to Hawaii and the Florida Keyes
Play with my grandbabies
Travel to Bali and Italy
Learn how to make pottery.
Travel to every state in the US
Retire
Did I mention travel?

The Seven dwarves are (google is cheating!):
Who cares

Seven things I say most often:
Look at me!
Such is life.
How was your day?
Hmmmmmm
Really?
Are you kidding me?
Oh well.

Seven movies I love:
Little Women
Steel Magnolias
Old black and white movies
Julia Roberts movies
Sandra Bullock movies
Almost all romantic comedies
Shrek

Ordinary things

Our life has been just ordinary lately. For example this weekend was spent at home doing whatever we decided to do that moment - housework, napping, reading, planting, rewatching the LSU victory on DVD - just whatever. I love weekends like this one - somehow they seem to restore me. I love busy weekends also - but sometimes busy all week and busy all weekend is just crazy!

I have read three intraspective (not sure of the spelling) books over the past few years - and I really like the most recent one although each one has and continues to teach me some very important lessons. The one I am reading now is "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle which is the Oprah book that goes along with the lessons every Monday night. When I first started the book I found it to be very difficult to understand - he outlines so much in the first chapter - but I continued reading it and really like. It's about a way of looking at life and living each moment in life and recognizing your reactions to certain moments in life. It's really life changing.

Only four more days till we leave for North Carolina!!! Can't wait to see everyone there. We are so blessed!

Relaxing on the weekend

Britt and Jimmy visited us Friday night which was a lot of fun. Yummy seafood, cold beer, strawberry pie - I wish we all lived closer so we could do that more often. It was great to see them!

Saturday we cruised in the vet and visited some friends in Thibodeaux. The vet will be painted next week and then the interior will be put back in and the seats redone - hooray! I can't wait to see it all put together and have a comfortable seat to ride in. It's been a fun car - can't wait to cruise the coast in it!

Today we met John and Joanna, Mike and Auz, and the girls in downtown New Orleans for lunch. The girls were in a cheerleading competition so we watched for a while. I had no idea that cheerleading was such a big deal - I was thinking football games - not major competitions - especailly for the little girls. It was fun to be with them.

Tomorrow I have an all day workshop - ugh - I hate those things! But it's at Nicholls and I get to go to lunch with other therapists so that will be nice.

Eye, eye, eye mate...

Gee and I usually only go to one or two parades at Mardi Gras but this year we opted out all together due to Gee's eye situation - he wouldn't be able to see any beads flying at him! So we decided to go to the North Shore and stay at the camp for a change of pace. Gee is slowly getting his stamina back - so we mostly took scenic drives. Normally Gee drives and I navigate - but this time I drove and navigated! I definitely like it the other way around.

The gulf coast is still very devastated from Hurricanne Katrina. Some homes are rebuilt but most of the area is just empty lots. There was no place to eat from Bay St. Louis to Ocean Springs except for the casinos and fast food restaurants. But we did find an old favorite restaurant - McElroy's - that used to have two locations - the beach location is gone and the one we ate in had 7 ft of water in it! I had flounder with crabmeat stuffing and Gee had the same with red smapper - soooo good!

The next day we headed the other way towards Folsom/Hammond. We are still scouting for a retirement place - but we aren't ready to make a decision yet. Still not sure how we will want to live in 5-10 years - in the country? in a golf community? in a townhouse with a place for a boat underneath? on a boat? in an rv? Hmmmmmmmmmmm?

Today we ventured to Madisonville where we had lunch on the river. It's one of my favorite Northshore places to lunch and my crab/shrimp/avocado salad did not disappoint. Now we are home and Gee is itching to cook - he's promising to make red gravy tomorrow - my absolute favoite! I love my husband!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously - it's so nice to have him feeling better - just need the vision to improve.

My turn...

What is your salad dressing of choice? Last weekend was fun - we attended two weddings. Both took place in gorgeous churches. St Francis cathedral in Houma has been newly remodeled and is elegantly beautiful and Immacolate Conception Church in New Orleans has so much history - the backs of the pews were iron scroll and the altar was stunning. I love visiting different churches - there is such a powerful feeling of holiness - just think of all the prayers offered in those churches! Jamie was a beautiful bride and the reception was alot of fun.

So this week we are dibbles testing at school. We have to administer a series of one minutes reading tests to EVERY STUDENT IN THE SCHOOL!!! Who came up with this idea??? We do this three times a year and it takes all day for 3-4 days with 10-15 people testing! I know what's wrong with education - we test too much! Last week our fourth graders took the practice LEAP to prepare for the real LEAP in April. So those students had a test every morning last week and were tested again today. Oh well - only 4 1/2 more years!

Oh well - time to get the clothes out of the dryer!

Patches of Godlight

I was reminded in church this past Sunday to always look for God in your daily life. I learned this concept several years ago - and it was called "Patches of Godlight". So here are a few "patches" I have seen lately:

Gee called me the other day to look out the window at the rainbow. Rainbows have always reminded me of God and this one was especially pretty.

Erin's picture with the scarecrow - I think it's a professional one. Her big laugh and precious eyes - this child is truly a gift from God.

I took Mom shopping today. She doesn't have a lot of stamina so we were only able to go to two stores but she was so appreciative that I took her. I am so lucky to still have her and that her alzheimer's seems to not be getting worse, although I know it will at some point. I have been blessed with both of my parents.

The other morning driving to school there was a beautiful light coming from the clouds - sunlight just breaking through. But it reminded me of the light of God.

We were writing Christmas wishes the other day and the children had to wish for something other that toys. So one of my second grade boys wished he could wrestle and alligator. He was so serious - and even wrote down his phone number for me in case I ever have a problem alligator around! The innocence of children.

Recognizing God in our daily lives helps to keep us focused on him and the true meaning of Christmas and our purpose here on earth. Have you seen any "Patches of Godlight" lately?

Things I like about December

1. It's my birthday month! One of my first graders today told me today that tomorrow is December and she couldn't wait. So I asked her why and she said because our birthdays are that month. I couldn't believe that she remembered that from a discussion earlier this year! It's also Angelle's birthday month, and John's and Kevin's and Lige's and Melea's! And of course Kenshae Nevis - my precious speech student!

2. Cool weather - it's almost always nice in December!

3. We have two weeks off of school!!! This year we have nine days off after Christmas which is the best time - the craziness is over and we can just enjoy!

4. Christmas lights - who doesn't love seeing the houses all lit up!

5. Christmas Eve - I love the tradition of going to my parents house and visiting with family. As they get older it just becomes more precious. I was there today and Mom was all excited because my brother helped her get her decorate her house. And Dad loves the steal gift! He and I were thinking of silly ideas for his. today while we cooked supper.

6. Christmas Day - Gee's family is so much fun! And this year we get to have it here again - yeah! It's wild and loud and chaos - and I love it.

7. But most importantly - I treasure the time when it's just us - our children and grandchildren here visiting and enjoying being together. That is the greatest gift of Christmas ever! I can't wait!

A few things

When I was a child I could fly. I know that sounds wierd but I can remember running around the yard with my arms out and REALLY FLYING! I could swoop and everything! As an adult I know this is impossible but I can remember it so vividly. As a child it's hard to be able to distinguish that fine line between real and not real. But really - that's not so bad. Wouldn't it be nice to have that kind of imagination as an adult!

I really didn't like high school. We lived so far in the country that I couldn't belong to any after school activities. My mom just didn't want to "go to town" and pick me up - and in her defense she did have her hands full with five children. I think that is why I am still "shy" in certain situations.

I really miss my sister. Now I know that's not such a suprise but we were closest in age of all our siblings and always look out for each other. I miss her dropping by. I miss helping her with things and her helping me with things. We talk at least once a week which is great - and I am happy for her. But it's just not the same. Before she left we spent a lot of time together - I knew she was leaving and really wanted that time with her. I'm glad we did.

I really don't like Christmas shopping. It always feels like such pressure to buy the right thing! Actually last year I decided not to worry about it and it was much better. I love giving gifts - I just don't like the shopping. Gee would be especially suprised about this because he thinks I love to shop - but actually I don't.

Well I couldn't think of six - maybe something will come to me later.

A few answers

What’s the first thing you do when waking up in the morning?
Put eye drops in my eyes now that I sleep in my contacts!

Do you prefer a shower or bath? Last weekend Gee and friends cooked for customers at an estate in Folsom, LA. It was so beautiful. We drove through park like setting to a beautiful colonial style home. There was a huge lake behind the house with swimming pool, tennis courts, jacuzzi tub. I visited with the ladies while Gee and friends served us wonderful food - brisket, jambalaya, boiled shrimp, crawfish boudin, and yummy cookies! Not exactly healthy but great. After the cookout we visited with out friends who live in the area - Brent and Sandra Chester. We spent a nice afternoon with them - watched half the LSU football game and then drove home. Sunday was a nice relaxing day at home.

Last night we went to a Hornets game with Mike and Lynn Myers and some other friends. Mike's company has a suite so we had great food, whatever we wanted to drink and good friends to visit with. The Hornets lost but who cares!

Today we are going in the vet to the "Thibodeauxville" festival and corvette car show. Janice and Lige are going to meet us there. I can't wait to see them - haven't had a good visit in a while.

So that's our life. School is fine - new challenges all the time but that keeps it interesting. I am so glad I'm not burnt out yet - so many teachers are before then can retire!

Halloween

Gee and I decided to go out to eat this Halloween. We live in a neighborhood where very few children trick or treat so I usually end up eating all the candy. Which is not good - especially since I am trying to eat healthier! Anyway - so we went to Flannagan's in Thibodeaux and then walked around Sam's. Not an especially exciting Halloween but it was nice.

Last weekend was a lot of fun. Kristin was a beautiful bride - and it was fun staying downtown in the Historic French Quarter Inn! The next day Gee and I had breakfast at Camilla Grill and shopped on Magazine Street, then a picnic lunch of roast beef sandwiches, stuffed artichoke and root beer.

Sunday my GRITS friends and I gave a shower for one of the groups daughters. We had yummy food and Jack Daniels punch. We had the most fun sitting around visiting after the shower. We used to all work together but now - some are retired and the rest of us are at different schools.

My job this year had been great. I supervise two therapists who have 12 classes of 4 year olds between them. They are so cute! I am also having a little success with one of my autistic students so that is rewarding. Anyway - since I have 2 to 5 years to work I'm glad I still like it.

I WON!!!

OK - so I messed up trying to post a minute ago - oh well! Anyway when Gee and I were at the Dularge fair we bought tickets for a raffle and won 1st and 3rd place - two beautiful quilts!!! One is queen size - purples and green - and one is a baby quilt! Now I have a quilt - just like each one of my children! That was quite a suprise.

I WON!!!

Tailgating

Gee and I tailgated for the Rummel game which was played at Nicholls State in Thibodeaux on Friday night. Lots of friends and family were there. I had only been to one Rummel game previously - I even had to ask Gee what color to wear! Gee cooked a jambalaya and Dave barbequed ribs - yum!
We were supposed to tailgate at the LSU/Auburn game the next day but we decided to stay home instead. Gee worked on the vet and I did some outdoor chores - great cool weather. Daddy called and invited us to eat fish that he had caught that day so we visited with them and had supper. Then - the game - and the tigers didn't disappoint!!!
Today we went to church - the Dularge fair where we had wonderful gumbo - and visited with friends. We went in the vet - which is fun - but I have to figure out what to do with my hair so I won't have so many tangles.
So - that was our weekend - back to work tomorrow and then Kristin's wedding Friday night!

Nice weekend

It was so nice to have Britt home for the weekend. We had lots of family time and girl time. The game was fun until the end - tigers are still the best! Today I cooked lots of yummy foods - a mini Thanksgiving dinner - and packed up the leftovers for Britt, Zac, and Jimmy. Jimmy came to eat with us - that was nice. Next weekend Rummel tailgating, Death Valley tailgating and the next Kristin's wedding. Lots to look forward to!

Thanks Britt for setting me up with a blog!
