Things I like about December

1. It's my birthday month! One of my first graders today told me today that tomorrow is December and she couldn't wait. So I asked her why and she said because our birthdays are that month. I couldn't believe that she remembered that from a discussion earlier this year! It's also Angelle's birthday month, and John's and Kevin's and Lige's and Melea's! And of course Kenshae Nevis - my precious speech student!

2. Cool weather - it's almost always nice in December!

3. We have two weeks off of school!!! This year we have nine days off after Christmas which is the best time - the craziness is over and we can just enjoy!

4. Christmas lights - who doesn't love seeing the houses all lit up!

5. Christmas Eve - I love the tradition of going to my parents house and visiting with family. As they get older it just becomes more precious. I was there today and Mom was all excited because my brother helped her get her decorate her house. And Dad loves the steal gift! He and I were thinking of silly ideas for his. today while we cooked supper.

6. Christmas Day - Gee's family is so much fun! And this year we get to have it here again - yeah! It's wild and loud and chaos - and I love it.

7. But most importantly - I treasure the time when it's just us - our children and grandchildren here visiting and enjoying being together. That is the greatest gift of Christmas ever! I can't wait!

A few things

When I was a child I could fly. I know that sounds wierd but I can remember running around the yard with my arms out and REALLY FLYING! I could swoop and everything! As an adult I know this is impossible but I can remember it so vividly. As a child it's hard to be able to distinguish that fine line between real and not real. But really - that's not so bad. Wouldn't it be nice to have that kind of imagination as an adult!

I really didn't like high school. We lived so far in the country that I couldn't belong to any after school activities. My mom just didn't want to "go to town" and pick me up - and in her defense she did have her hands full with five children. I think that is why I am still "shy" in certain situations.

I really miss my sister. Now I know that's not such a suprise but we were closest in age of all our siblings and always look out for each other. I miss her dropping by. I miss helping her with things and her helping me with things. We talk at least once a week which is great - and I am happy for her. But it's just not the same. Before she left we spent a lot of time together - I knew she was leaving and really wanted that time with her. I'm glad we did.

I really don't like Christmas shopping. It always feels like such pressure to buy the right thing! Actually last year I decided not to worry about it and it was much better. I love giving gifts - I just don't like the shopping. Gee would be especially suprised about this because he thinks I love to shop - but actually I don't.

Well I couldn't think of six - maybe something will come to me later.

Life

Gee and I have been busy as usual. Last weekend Gee and friends cooked for customers at an estate in Folsom, LA. It was so beautiful. We drove through park like setting to a beautiful colonial style home. There was a huge lake behind the house with swimming pool, tennis courts, jacuzzi tub. I visited with the ladies while Gee and friends served us wonderful food - brisket, jambalaya, boiled shrimp, crawfish boudin, and yummy cookies! Not exactly healthy but great. After the cookout we visited with out friends who live in the area - Brent and Sandra Chester. We spent a nice afternoon with them - watched half the LSU football game and then drove home. Sunday was a nice relaxing day at home.

Last night we went to a Hornets game with Mike and Lynn Myers and some other friends. Mike's company has a suite so we had great food, whatever we wanted to drink and good friends to visit with. The Hornets lost but who cares!

Today we are going in the vet to the "Thibodeauxville" festival and corvette car show. Janice and Lige are going to meet us there. I can't wait to see them - haven't had a good visit in a while.

So that's our life. School is fine - new challenges all the time but that keeps it interesting. I am so glad I'm not burnt out yet - so many teachers are before then can retire!
